Ohio Power Tool

Website

OBJECTIVE: Our website represents who we are as a company. When our customer are shopping on our site, we want them to have all the necessary information for each product. Providing the customer with a simple experience, with the opportunity to gain knowledge for their projects, is our focus.

Problem

Originally our website consisted of a multitude of pages that were similar to this page example. The amount of information that was presented was adequate but at the same time overwhelming to read.

There were simple mistakes that where the images and the product titles were different. For example: The Milwaukee Sawzall shown is a Bare Tool (battery not included). The image, however, shows a battery. These kind of mistakes were confusing to the customer and would, in turn, cause problems for the sales staff.

The bullet points were originally used for all titles, features, and specifications. The main problem with the way this product information is displayed, is how challenging it is to find specific information. The information is easily lost with numerous bullet points and large paragraphs.

Solution

To show correct information and representation of our tools, new standards for product information have been implemented. Bare Tools now show images that do not include batteries. Often, multiple images will be shown that has been photoshopped with a battery at 50% opacity. This gives the customer knowledge of the type of battery used.

The best way to provide information about each product was to make the information more readable. By implementing hierarchy with HTML and CSS, the text becomes easier to read and easier for the customer to interact with the information provided.

The first thing that we want the customer to see when looking through the product information is the brand, name, and model of the product. Using tables in the specification section enables the customer to easily find specific information.
